Begin your bandage application with a clean and dry paw. If any moisture remains, it is more likely that bacteria will grow.
Apply an antibiotic ointment to a telfa pad and cover the wound.
Wrap cast padding around the paw and telfa pad.
Place two strips of porous 1″ tape from the toes up the sides of the leg.
Then use two more strips of the 1″ tape to go around the leg. Be sure the tape is not too tight! (This would stop circulation and cause swelling.)
Beginning at the toes, wrap vet-wrap around the paw and lower leg. Again, it should be snug but not too tight.
It is extremely important to keep the bandage clean and dry! Aways place a bag or plastic over the bandage when going outside. (Do not leave the bag on. You want to allow air to get to the bandage.) Check the bandage daily for moisture or any odors if either is detected, the bandage will need replacing.
